2026 STUDENT PLACEMENT – PARENT INFORMATION
Thanks to all parents who took the time fill in a parent request related to the class placement of their child in 2026. A reminder that we will do our best to accomodate requests however nothing is considered guarunteed or locked in.
Please Note: we do not accommodate requests for:
- A specific teacher (please don’t make ill-informed teacher judgments)
- Placement with your child’s best friends (best friends does not guarantee best learning)
At St Ita’s, we view school as a vital space for children to learn more than just academics. It’s where they begin to explore how to:
- Be friendly with many, not just friends with a few
- Work alongside others with different views and strengths
- Build respectful relationships
- Adapt to change with resilience and confidence
Changing classes can naturally bring a mix of emotions—excitement, nervousness, uncertainty—but it also provides valuable life lessons. Just as adults transition between workplaces, students benefit from learning how to form new, positive working relationships in fresh environments.
We strongly believe that keeping children in the same group year after year limits these important learning experiences. By experiencing change, children learn to form new connections, become more adaptable, and develop independence.
Our class placement process is thoughtful and thorough. We consider:
- Each child’s academic, social, and emotional needs
- The strengths and teaching styles of staff
- Peer compatibility (not friendships)
- Requests from students for peers they work well with
To help with this process, we use Class Solver, a tool that assists in creating balanced class groups based on gender, academics, social and emotional needs.
If you’re discussing next year with your child, we encourage you to frame it as an opportunity for growth—like starting a new job. Share your own stories about building new relationships in changing environments. These are important life skills, and your positive outlook can help them feel confident and supported.
This weeks conversation starters, to help you kick off some quality conversations with your family.
- If you could choose 3 things to do in a day what would they be?
- Who whas been your favourite teacher and why?
- What makes a person smart? Do o you think you arm
The goal? To help build a routine—whether it’s nightly dinners, drives to school, or even just one dedicated evening a week for “Family Conversation Night” (no screens allowed!).
You’ll be amazed at the magic that unfolds once it becomes a family habit.

SUNSMART HAT POLICY
As a Sunsmart School all students are to be wearing their school broad brimmed hats at recess and lunch. If children don't have their hat they need to stay and play in the 2 zones designated shelter spaces. Juniors the shelter shed at car line and Seniors outside the shelter next to Mr Ireland's room
CARLINE PICK UP AND DROP OFF EXPECTATIONS
Can I please remind all parents thet the speed limit at drop off and pick up is 10 kph. In the interest of child safety could I ask all parents to observe this safe speed when dropping and picking students up at Admin carline and Drouin Rec Reserve car line.
Also a reminder to parents that there is no right hand turn cutting in front of cars making a left hand turn into school admin drop off and pick up. The expectation id that parents drive down to the roundabout and come back up the hill to join the queue making a left hand turn into school. This eliminates traffic issues and keeps everyone safe.
DROPPING STUDENTS AT SCHOOL BEFORE 8.30AM
A reminder to all parents that the school drop off time and gate opening is at 8.30am. We have been getting a growing number of students dropped off at school between 8.00 and 8.30 am and children are unsupervised. It can also be extremely cold and wet with minimal shelter. If you need to drop your children off prior to 8.30am we recommend that you contact Camp Australia and access before school care

PARISH NEWS
MASS TIME TABLE FOR TERM FOUR
WE THE CHURCH
Normally we would be celebrating the 32nd Sunday of Ordinary Time this Sunday but this year the feast of Dedication of the Lateran Basilica falls on this day and has precedence.
The Lateran Basilica in Rome is first among all churches and the Pope’s Cathedral. His cathedra (bishop’s chair) is situated there, and the feast recalls the dedication of the church in 324AD marking change from persecution of Christians to a newfound religious freedom for Christians.
Of the four major basilicas in Rome, the oldest and most important is not, as we might think, St Peter’s but Saint John Lateran. It is the mother church of the Archdiocese of Rome but also the mother church of the entire world.
Now in its eighteenth century, the Archbasilica has retained its original form through several fires and a devastating earthquake and we proudly celebrate it as such.
More importantly though, our scripture readings emphasise that the church is not made up of bricks and mortar but of individual Christians as living stones and local faith communities.
In our first reading today, we hear Ezekiel’s vision of a river flowing from the Temple in Jerusalem and bringing life everywhere it went (Ezek 47). For us it is a vision of the Church receiving life-giving grace from Jesus.
St Paul makes it plain that it is we ourselves who make up God’s building – the Church of which, graced by God, he is the successful architect and foundation layer. While John’s gospel (John 2:13-22) of Jesus cleansing the temple symbolizes that the true temple is now in Jesus himself and his followers as the Body of Christ, rather than a single physical building.
Celebrating today the dedication of the “the mother and mistress of all churches of Rome and the world”, we pray that the Church be a true mother and that Jesus may become the foundation stone and corner stone of all lives.
